Description
Darkmilk chocolate with an increased cocoa content of 50%.
Berau cocoa has a strong cocoa base with notes of lychee and green tea with a pleasant cinnamon finish. Cocoa from the Indonesian island of Borneo is the trinitario variety (ICS 60, SCA 6) combined with local varieties. The ‘Berau Cocoa’ cooperative was established in 2018 to rehabilitate the remaining trees and promote cocoa as an alternative source of income for local farmers in an area traditionally known for its mining industry. Today, 168 farmers grow cocoa on approx. 300 ha. The Berau Cocoa team was supported by a senior researcher from ICCRI, who supervised and trained the team in best agricultural practices and post-harvest methods.
